Koh Samui - Yoga Retreat

One the things I love most about living in South East Asia is how easy and reasonably priced it is to take long weekend getaways.  Bali and Thailand are both about a 2 hour flight away.

Kingsley and I sometimes joke it is cheaper for us to leave Singapore (recently ranked the most expensive city in the world) and fly somewhere for the weekend than it is to stay in town.

A few weeks ago my friend Kristen and I took advantage of some cheap flights and went to Koh Samui for a yoga getaway.  This is my third trip to Koh Samui for yoga retreats since moving to Singapore and each time I fall in love with yoga a bit more.

Another thing I love about these yoga getaways in Koh Samui is the delicious organic raw food that they make at the resort. One of my favorites is the raw lasagna.  Kingsley has been hearing me rave about it for a while so I brought a big slice of raw lasagna back to Singapore so he could give it a try.  He was duly impressed. Now I just need to find a way to recreate the recipe somehow!

Sailing to Batam Island Nongsa Point Marina

We had a great weekend away with some friends enjoying their beautiful new Catamaran.  We sailed from Singapore to Indonesia (Batam Island) which took about 3 hours one way.  It was a beautiful day and the seas were smooth so it was a lovely trip.  The only stressful part was the shipping lane that we had to cross through as we were leaving Singapore's waters.  The shipping lane is packed full of massive cargo ships arriving and departing from Singapore. These massive ships not only have the right of way but also have no way of stopping once they get going so we had to time our crossing when there was a tiny gap in the traffic and then gun it across the shipping lane.  Once on the other side we all breathed a sigh of relief and got down to the serious business of relaxing.

On Batam island we spent the night on the boat at Nongsa Point Marina which was attached to a very nice hotel and right next to a beautiful resort called Turi Beach Resort. Kingsley even found a new kitten friend as we explored the resort.

A weekend of sun, sailing and good times with friends was over all too quickly but we had the most wonderful time and it was fun to brush up on our boating skills which are a little rusty after our sailing course last Christmas.

Beautiful cloud formation as we sailed back into Singapore waters.

Labor Day/May Day Thanksgiving Dinner

We hosted an impromptu dinner party to celebrate Labor Day in Singapore on May 1st.  It started off with a plan to have a simple meal with a few friends but as usual I took things a bit overboard and ended up making a Thanksgiving style feast for all of us.  Complete with turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and cornbread.  It was our first big dinner party at our (same same but different) new condo.

We are so fortunate to have such amazing friends in Singapore.

Kingsley always does an amazing job on the post dinner dishes.

Singapore Yacht Show

Kingsley and I went to the Singapore Yacht show a few weeks ago to catch a glimpse of the lifestyles of the rich and famous and to dream about owning a fancy yacht someday.

Is that... a boat parked inside that superyacht? Yes, yes it is. How entirely normal it seemed at the show where each boat seemed to be flashier than the next.
