Sailing to Batam Island Nongsa Point Marina

We had a great weekend away with some friends enjoying their beautiful new Catamaran.  We sailed from Singapore to Indonesia (Batam Island) which took about 3 hours one way.  It was a beautiful day and the seas were smooth so it was a lovely trip.  The only stressful part was the shipping lane that we had to cross through as we were leaving Singapore's waters.  The shipping lane is packed full of massive cargo ships arriving and departing from Singapore. These massive ships not only have the right of way but also have no way of stopping once they get going so we had to time our crossing when there was a tiny gap in the traffic and then gun it across the shipping lane.  Once on the other side we all breathed a sigh of relief and got down to the serious business of relaxing.

On Batam island we spent the night on the boat at Nongsa Point Marina which was attached to a very nice hotel and right next to a beautiful resort called Turi Beach Resort. Kingsley even found a new kitten friend as we explored the resort.

A weekend of sun, sailing and good times with friends was over all too quickly but we had the most wonderful time and it was fun to brush up on our boating skills which are a little rusty after our sailing course last Christmas.

Beautiful cloud formation as we sailed back into Singapore waters.
