First stop on our Hong Kong tour was to Stanley Market which is a very popular market on the south side of the island. You can buy lots of souvenirs and trinkets for a good price at the market but I found it very similar to Chinatown in Singapore so didn't want to spend too much time there. Instead Kingsley and I had a great bfast on the Stanley Promenade overlooking the ocean.
We then headed about 15 min southeast to a little town called Shek O where there is a paragliding site off a mountain called dragons back. Kingsley brought his gear with the hopes of flying since the weather was perfect but there was no one around, probably because it was a thursday and everyone was at work. Even so, we decided to check out the LZ which is a tiny patch of beachfront in-between a golf course and a bunch of homes. After a though-rough investigation Kingsley deemed the site an excellent location to fly! So we made plans to return over the weekend to see if we could meet up with some other pilots. Sadly the weather on the weekend was not good for flying so Kingsley was pretty disappointed. But on the bright side that means we will have to go back to Hong Kong soon!

The Merlion hotel is a 5 star suite that was temporarily created around the famous merlion fountain. From March to May as part of the Biennale celebration guests can stay there for $150 a night. Evidently all the nights were fully booked in less than an hour.
During the day the public is allowed to tour the inside of the hotel which is amazing!

A Japanese household goods fair in the pavilion of one of the local malls provided an evening f entertainment for Kingsley and I yesterday. In my limited experience the kind of inventions the Japanese create are about 70% brilliant and 30% totally bizarre.

I am very very happy to share that the two kittens I have been trying to save are now in perfect health!! Twice I took them to the vet and twice I was told there was no way they would make it. I had to fight the vet to let me keep trying and spent countless long nights doing everything in my power to give them a chance. A week and a half ago they finally bounced back and are now providing Kingsley and I hours of entertainment as we watch them eat, play & love us!
In just over a week they are due back to the vet for their first set of immunizations and I cant wait to see his face when I bring back two perfect little kittens.

We got a new techie toy at the Wood household recently and Kingsley has been dying to set it up. Well evidently today was the day to break out the Kinect. Since our xbox and kinect were both purchased in the US it was quite an ordeal to get both machines running at peak performance in Singapore. The "setup ordeal" lasted severl hours and included several trips to the fuse box, 2 voltage converters, 2 blown multi-plug adaptors, and twenty feet of extension cord.
However it was all worth it in the end as I got to see Kingsley make a complete fool of himself attempting to learn (surprisingly) complicated dance moves with Dance Dance Revolution. Of course the last laugh was on me when it was my turn to perform. The game is HARD! And my pride was a touch injured when Kingsley scored significantly more points than I did. Evidently I have my work cut out for me...

Even after living here for over a year I still find something fascinating and/or shocking almost every trip to the grocery store. Yesterday was no exception... I was walking through the meat department of our local market and this caught my eye:
Chicken feet??!! I mean if they are being sold in the grocery store then obviously someone is eating them! It took me a few minutes to compose myself but I finally worked up the courage to do some research to see what kind of recipes were out there featuring chicken feet and WOW there are a lot!

I think I may have a new "must try" item for our next out of town guests. Let this be known, the longer you wait to come visit us in Singapore...the longer I have to find memorable "authentic" experiences for you to enjoy while you are here!!

Last night Kingsley and I met up with our friend Suhas who was visiting from India on a work trip. We went to a Thai German Brewery and a long with a live Thai Band we were informed by the waiter that there was a dance competition going on and whoever went on stage and danced the best (voted on by a team of judges) would receive a free drink. I was specifically asked if I would be interested in dancing which was quite possibly the last thing in the world I wanted to do! I prefer to watch other people make fools of themselves rather than to be the fool!
This business man was my all time favorite for the evening, I sure hope he won something because he must have lost some pride!
