New Zealand - Abel Tasman Kayak & Hike

There is so much to see in the Abel Tasman National Park, I wish we could have spent at least a week exploring the area.  However, we did get a fantastic overview of the sites by doing a hike and kayak combo.  It is a full day of adventure we left at around 8am and were back at the campsite by around 5 pm.

First step - taking a water taxi from Marahau to Torrent Bay.

We then hiked for 2.5 hours from Torrent Bay up to Bark Bay which is a small section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track.  The entire track extends for 54.4km. We only walked 12.1kms of it.

The Abel Tasman National Park was named after Abel Janszoon Tasman, a Dutch explorer who was (according to most) the first European to see New Zealand.

The start of our hike at Torrent Bay. It was named by French explorer Dumont D'Urville during his exploration and mapping of this area of New Zealand in 1827.

Arrived at beautiful Bark Bay at the end of our 2 hour hike ready to hop in our kayaks and paddle back to our campsite in Marahau.

Kingsley took a dip in the water, as inviting as it looked I found it WAY to cold to get in.

Kayaked (and sailed) our way back to Marahau.
