New Zealand - Marahau

Marahau means windy gardens in Maori, it is the gateway to Able Tasman National Park.  Marahau is literally a tiny dot on the map. The town boasts a small general store (that sold beer and wine but no dish soap!), one restaurant, a few homes and a campsite.  We stayed here for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, it was beautiful but very remote.

The tidal shifts between high and low tide are fairly extreme in the bay.

The entire town shut down on Christmas Day so Kingsley and I were on our own as far as food and drinks were concerned.  Thankfully I was well prepared.  We had camp cookstove fish tacos and a beautiful bottle of Nobilo Reserve Sav Blanc as our Christmas dinner.

Kingsley managed to squeeze in his annual traditional Christmas Day nap in our very cool compact travel hammock that we received as a gift a few years back.
