New Zealand - Dolphin Encounter

Kaikoura's dolphins are the dusky dolphins which can be found along the coastline year round. They are a very gregarious bunch, living together in pods from 100 to over 1000 dolphins per pod. The typical lifespan in 20-25 years. The dusky dolphins are reputed to be amongst the most acrobatic of all dolphins, their spectacular leaps include jumps, side slaps, back flips and somersaults.

Here we are right before jumping into the water with a pod of over 200 dusky dolphins.  For those of you that know me well - I am a big animal lover but have an extra special place in my heart for dolphins.

The Dolphin Encounter in Kaikoura was one of the most amazing experiences ever.  Once in the water we had dozens and dozens of curious dolphins all around us. They would swim right up to us - spinning and twirling around just beckoing us to join the game. So we would spin and twirl with them, dive deep into the water with them and then resurface together. The dolphins were up for playing long after we were fully exhausted.

It...was...Incredible!

More footage of us in the water with the dolphins.
