India - Jodhpur Haveli Inn

The city of Jodhpur was the next stop on our trip and the last stop of the overnight train which finally crept into the city at 9:30pm - 9 hours after we boarded the train.  Though we were starving and in desperate need of a clean toilet and shower we were thankful to have arrived safely.

Jodhpur, also known as the "sun city" due to the bright sunny weather throughout the year, is the second largest city in Rajasthan.

The haveli inn is a heritage hotel and in the 18th century was the private residence of the aristocratic family of the fiefdom Pal. The home has stayed in the family and Chamund Singh Pal and son Narpat Singh Pal had the home tastefully converted into a Heritage hotel.  The main lobby is filled with photos and paintings of the family lineage.

We found the owners to be incredibly hospitable. Even opening the kitchen for us after it had closed for the night so we could have a decent meal.  I also loved asking them about the family history and have to admit I was pretty impressed with the familial pride and intricate details they knew about their family history.  I don't have to go very far back in mine to know very little other than the names and dates on the family tree.
