Cambodia - Border Crossing
Just returned from an 8 day trip to Poipet Cambodia with a medical team from the US called Project Compassion. Ever since our trip to Cambodia several months ago I have been wanting to go back to do some medical work there and the group Project Compassion was going at the perfect time so I was able to meet up with them and become part of the team.
I met up with the team in Bangkok - which was interesting because there is so much flooding right now and the news has advised people not to go there. My flight from Singapore to Bangkok was the emptiest flight I have every been on. I think there were around 12 other passengers on the entire flight. Which was a little eerie but also kinda nice to have a whole row to my self. Coming in to land in Bangkok I got a chance to see some of the flooded areas. A little worrisome since the plan was to drive from Bangkok to Cambodia. Poipet the city where we were working is right on the border.
The trip to the border was thankfully uneventful, I didnt see any flooding at all once on the ground. At the border we had to unload all the baggage and put it on a cart to be wheeled across the border. Which was no small feat with a total of 27 bags!! The most amazing part was that one man pulled the cart across the border.
Eventually made it into Cambodia and checked into the nicest hotel in Poipet which also happens to be a Casino. Got accustom to falling asleep to the sound of slot machines!
